Team Arizona (State Wars 19)
Arizona Teams are now forming for the State Wars 19 tournament this July
What is State Wars?
State Wars is a multi national roller hockey tournament hosting teams from throughout North America, as well as South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and many others throughout their 19 seasons.
State Wars teams are formed with players who all live in the same state, and then by birth year, versus "age divisions". For example; Team Arizona 2012. Each birth year has two tiers of play offered; A and AA/AAA.
Where is State Wars?
State Wars 19 is being held at the SportONE Parkview Icehouse in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The closest airport is FWA (Fort Wayne Airport) but it can be a little pricey depending on the date. The least pricey option will most likely be IND (Indianapolis) which is about an hour and a forty minute drive away (112 miles).
When would we be playing?
The following is the block schedule by birth year, you should plan on arriving the day before your block would start, and plan on leaving either late in the evening on the last day, or the day after.
Where do we stay?
State Wars is a "stay to play" event, meaning they require that we book our lodging through them. Where as some of these stay to plays are more expensive, over the years we've found the rates State Wars negotiates are as good or sometimes better than what's offered to the public, many times with added perks (free breakfast, etc). Costs for State Wars:
The per player cost is $310 which includes:
- Your share of the teams entry fee into the event, where each team receives a guaranteed 5 games
- A set of custom Team Arizona home and away jerseys with your players name and #, and a pair of State Wars 19 custom pants.
- A free log in to the event live stream for your friends and family back home to watch and follow the team.
Once teams are selected, families should be prepared to pay their team fee in full, by no later than June 1, 2023. A link will be provided for payment once teams are selected. That payment is done directly to State Wars, if you are not able to pay by the deadline, please make that clear ahead of time, to see if an extension may be offered.
How many players are there per team?
The ideal # is 8 skaters and one goalie. Depending on interest that # could be +/- 1-2 players.
Can you play in multiple divisions?
Players may play up a birth year if the team is short players. For example a 2011 could also play on a 2010 team, but a 2010 could not play down on a 2011 team. If you are interested in playing in two divisions, please fill out a form for both the players actual birth year and the birth year below.
Who is coaching the Team Arizona Teams?
The head of the Team Arizona program is Nick Boyarsky. Various coaches from the IHAAZ tournament series have been approached to assist Nick in forming and coaching the various Team Arizona birth year teams. More to be announced as teams are formed.
How will teams be formed and how do I get involved?
To gauge interest, we have created a simple online form you fill out and submit. Based on that interest, we will determine what birth year team(s) we can form. Players IHAAZ stats and game play will be taken into account in forming the teams. The goal is to put the most competitive team together possible, based on the interest shown.
Forms must be received by May 28th.
