High School Game Rules

1.     SEASON

(a)    The official IHAAZ High School Season will be the same as the IHAAZ Youth Season.

2.     ROSTER AND REGISTRATION

A) ORGANIZATION
The name entered as Coach and Team Administrator on the registration form for a high school team will be the main contact with the league and will be the only contact the league will accept for entry into the qualifier season.

B) TEAM SIZE
Each team will be allowed to carry a maximum of 14 players on their roster.  The roster must contain a minimum of one goalie and a maximum of up to 13 skaters.  In order for a high school team to participate in the high school division, the minimum number of players that must physically be on the team roster will be 6 skaters and one goalie for a minimum of 7 rostered players.

Note: Coaches may not cut or deny players access to the team tryouts if said student(s) are enrolled in the school representing the team.  All students must have an equal opportunity to compete in the League despite their level of skill or experience.

C) LEVEL OF PLAY
The league will consist of  teams with rostered players who are students which attend the school that they will represent during their participation in the IHAAZ.

D) REGISTRATION DEADLINE
Currently, high school play is done as a qualifier style format, in other words, a high school team
could play as many as 3 to 4 games on a particular weekend.  As a result, a team would have to abide by the registration deadline for that particular qualifier.

F) TEAM ROSTER
Every player on the high school team roster must be registered with AAU.  The team roster must be submitted to the IHAAZ within the specified period for the purpose of participating in the high school division.

G) TEAM ROSTER ADDITIONS
Team roster additions must be submitted no less than one week prior to the qualifier that a high school teams intends to participate in.  Any high school team, which has the required minimum of 6 skaters and 1 goalie (7 total skaters), may request to add a maximum of 2 players who are students at another high school.  The eligibility requirement for players being added to a high school team that are not students of that high school school is that their school district boundry must be adjacent to the the school district of the high school team they intend to play on.   This request must be submitted to the IHAAZ board for approval no later than one week prior to the qualifier.  A player draft form must be completed and submitted to the IHAAZ for review for each roster addition if the player or players are being added after a high school’s first qualifier.  Player/roster additions may not be conducted at a weekend tournament.  After a high school team’s first weekend qualifier, any player(s) being added to a high school team roster will incur a $15.00 fee to the IHAAZ as long as player information, AAU registration and high school affiliation is confirmed.

a)     A high school team that has more than one team representing their school may make one player move from one team to another during the regular season.  Any player wanting to make a second move back to another team or their original team will need to get approval from the IHAAZ.

H) MEMBERSHIP FORMS
Proof of AAU membership is required for each coach, assistant coach and player listed on the roster before he/she can compete or coach in any league game.  Failure to do so will result in a forfeit of any games played without membership.

Everyone on the bench must be an AAU member.  All IHAAZ registration forms must be completed (with valid AAU membership numbers) and submitted to the IHAAZ prior to any participation in any games.  AAU/USA Roller Sports (USARS) is the current sanctioning body.

3.  ELIGIBILITY

I) STUDENT AGE ELIGIBILITY
a)  If a student becomes 19 years of age after September 1st, he/she IS eligible to compete for the remainder of the school year.  If he/she becomes 19 years of age on or before September 1st, he/she IS NOT eligible for any part of the school year.  This is not petitionable under any hardship rule.

J) GENERAL STUDENT ELIGIBILITY
a)    Students must be currently enrolled in the high school for which he/she is rostered.

c)    Students who are expelled or suspended from school are not eligible until the scholastic disciplinary penalty is resolved or completed.

d)    Players who are suspended from play by the IHAAZ may not participate in any IHAAZ events until the suspension expires or is lifted.

K) TEAM ELIGIBILITY
a)    All high school teams must participate in a minimum of 4 IHAAZ qualifiers in order to be qualified to participate in the State Championships.  Individual players must have participated in 2 qualifiers with the team that they intend on playing with in the state championships.

PLAYERS MUST SIGN IN BEFORE PLAYING

In order to participate in and earn qualification for a qualifier in the high school division, the following conditions must be met:

…1) If the format of play comprises round robin games prior to a semi-final and then a final championship game (normally when there are 3 teams), each player must have been physically present on his or her team’s bench and must have participated with his or her team in at least 2 games of round robin play in order to be eligible to participate in the remainder of games, be it a semi-final or final.  Each player also must have signed in no later than the start of the 2nd game.  If a particular player was physically present on his or her team’s bench and participated with his or her team in at least 2 games of round robin play, but neglected to sign in at the registration desk before the start of the second game of their qualifier, their participation in the qualifier will not count as a completed qualifier towards being eligible for the state championships.  If a particular player was not physically present on his or her team’s bench and did not participate with his or her team in at least 2 games of round robin play, he or she will not be permitted to participate in any further games with their team in the qualifier.  During the qualifier season, if a particular player was physically present on his or her team’s bench and participated with his or her team in at least 2 games of round robin play, but neglected to sign in at the registration desk before the start of the second game of their qualifier, or they had not already participated with his or her team by the 2nd game, their participation in the qualifier will not count as a completed qualifier towards being eligible for the state championships.

…2) If the format of play comprises round robin play in a 4 team division (normally when the winner is chosen with best round robin performance), each player must have been physically present on his or her team’s bench and must have participated with his or her team by at least the 2nd game of the round robin play.  A player will not be permitted to participate with his or her team if they had not already participated with their team by the 2nd game.  Each player also must have signed in no later than the start of the 2nd game.  During the qualifier season, if a particular player was physically present on his or her team’s bench and participated with his or her team in at least 2 games of round robin play, but neglected to sign in at the registration desk before the start of the second game of their qualifier, or they had not already participated with his or her team by the 2nd game, their participation in the qualifier will not count as a completed qualifier towards being eligible for the state championships.

…3) If the format of play comprises round robin play in a 5 team division (normally when the winner is chosen with best round robin performance), each player must have been physically present on his or her team’s bench and must have participated with his or her team by at least the 3rd game of the round robin play.  A player will not be permitted to participate with his or her team if they had not already participated with their team by the 3rd game.  Each player also must have signed in no later than the start of the 2nd game.  During the qualifier season, if a particular player was physically present on his or her team’s bench and participated with his or her team in at least the last 3 games of round robin play, but neglected to sign in at the registration desk before the start of the 2nd game of their qualifier, or they had not already participated with his or her team by the 3rd game, their participation in the qualifier will not count as a completed qualifier towards being eligible for the state championships.

…4) If a player has not yet been officially added to a team’s roster, or, does not qualify to participate on the team that he or she is intending on playing on and that player participates with his or her team, then every game that the team participates in with that ineligible player or players will be forfeited.

a)    Teams will be required to carry a Team Roster Binder that contains copies of player’s eligibility requirements for each player listed on the roster.  This binder should include copies of team registration, approved roster, copies of student identification, “home school” student verification documentation, and pre-existing AAU membership documentation.

b)    Whether your school requires it or not, an adult over the age of 21 must represent the team as the head coach.  Team coaches and team administrators are responsible for enforcing all IHAAZ qualifier rules and regulations, both in the application procedure and throughout the season.

4.  UNIFORMS AND PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

L)    UNIFORMS
a)    All players must wear matching jerseys, similar in color and design.  It is mandatory that all players, excluding goalkeepers, wear inline hockey pants.  Absolutely NO PAJAMAS or similar apparel will be permitted.

b)    Home teams must wear light colored jerseys.  Visiting teams must wear dark colored jerseys.

c)    Jerseys must have unique numbers for each player, clearly placed on the back, no less than 8 inches in height.  No tape.  Player numbers must remain consistent throughout the IHAAZ qualifier season and playoffs/championships.

d)    The school name, logo, mascot, and player name may be displayed on the jersey.

e)    No advertisements are allowed on player uniforms or equipment, including helmets without league approval.

f)    Players are not permitted to wear jerseys other than that of the school team and program.  Jerseys that represent other leagues or sports will not be permitted.  Players wearing any hockey (or sport) jersey other than that of their school team will not be permitted on the court for competition.

M)    EQUIPMENT
a)    Logos on originally manufactured equipment may remain as produced.

b)    All players must wear proper fitting approved HECC APPROVED helmets with full cage, or face shield, and chin strap.  Helmet chin strap must remain snapped at all times on the skating surface.  No helmet and/or facemask may be altered in any way.  They must be worn as manufactured.  A player will be removed from the game and my not return until corrections are made.

c)    Elbow pads, shin pads, hockey gloves an athletic protector/cup, and in-line skates are mandatory.  Note: A bench minor will be assessed to any player failing to comply with any of the previously mentioned equipment policies.

d)    Skates may not have missing wheels, protruding bolts, or screws of any kind.  No loose or hanging equipment will be permitted.  All protective equipment cannot be exposed.
