Team Qualifying

Teams in the 8u, 10u, 12u, 14u and High School divisions must participate in all 4 of the IHAAZ qualifiers, in their appropriate age division, in order to be qualified to participate in the State Championships.  Individual players must have participated in 2 qualifiers with the team that they intend on playing with in the state championships.

Players must sign-in before playing

In order for youth and High School division teams and players to participate in and earn qualification for a qualifier in the youth and High School divisions, the following conditions must be met:

…1) If the format of play comprises round robin games prior to a semi-final and then a final championship game (normally when there are 3 teams), each player must have been physically present on his or her team’s bench and must have participated with his or her team in at least 2 games of round robin play in order to be eligible to participate in the remainder of games, be it a semi-final or final.  Each player also must have signed in no later than the start of the 2nd game.  If a particular player was physically present on his or her team’s bench and participated with his or her team in at least 2 games of round robin play, but neglected to sign in at the registration desk before the start of the second game of their qualifier, their participation in the qualifier will not count as a completed qualifier towards being eligible for the state championships.  If a particular player was not physically present on his or her team’s bench and did not participate with his or her team in at least 2 games of round robin play, he or she will not be permitted to participate in any further games with their team in the qualifier.  During the qualifier season, if a particular player was physically present on his or her team’s bench and participated with his or her team in at least 2 games of round robin play, but neglected to sign in at the registration desk before the start of the second game of their qualifier, or they had not already participated with his or her team by the 2nd game, their participation in the qualifier will not count as a completed qualifier towards being eligible for the state championships.

…2) If the format of play comprises round robin play in a 4 team division (normally when the winner is chosen with best round robin performance), each player must have been physically present on his or her team’s bench and must have participated with his or her team by at least the 2nd game of the round robin play.  A player will not be permitted to participate further with his or her team if they had not already participated with their team by the 2nd game.  Each player also must have signed in no later than the start of the 2nd game.

…3) If the format of play comprises round robin play in a 5 team division (normally when the winner is chosen with best round robin performance), each player must have been physically present on his or her team’s bench and must have participated with his or her team by at least the 3rd game of the round robin play.  A player will not be permitted to participate further with his or her team if they had not already participated with their team by the 3rd game.  Each player also must have signed in no later than the start of the 2nd game.  During the qualifier season, if a particular player was physically present on his or her team’s bench and participated with his or her team in at least the last 3 games of round robin play, but neglected to sign in at the registration desk before the start of the 2nd game of their qualifier, or they had not already participated with his or her team by the 3rd game, their participation in the qualifier will not count as a completed qualifier towards being eligible for the state championships.

…4) If a player has not yet been officially added to a team’s roster, or, does not qualify to participate on the team that he or she is intending on playing on and that player participates with his or her team, then every game that the team participates in with that ineligible player or players will be forfeited.

One skater and one goalie added at qualifiers

Prior to the first game, youth & High School teams will be allowed to add one skater and one goalie while at a qualifier.  This player addition has been implemented by the IHAAZ in the event that a team has a crisis at a particular qualifier which could render a team unable to compete without enough participants, goalies in particular.  It must be noted, however, that the players being added in this manner must be done so by indicating their roster addition on the TEAM SIGN-IN FORM at the qualifier and a $15.00 fee per player must be submitted along with  an AAU registration number as well.

Adding players who are ineligible to participate at state finals

Youth and High School division players who will not meet the eligibility requirements to attend the State Championships because of insufficient team participation, may be added temporarily to an “Open” or “A” level designated team to participate in any qualifier up to, but not including, the state championships.  Youth players who will be deemed ineligible to participate at the state championships MAY NOT be added to non-open level team rosters at qualifiers.
